Celeb Kids You Totally Forgot About
In order to maintain a sense of normalcy for their children, some A-listers go to great lengths to keep their kids away from the press and the prying lenses of the paparazzi. By shunning the media, these children have been able to live a quiet life away from the spotlight, but their absence sometimes makes us forget they even exist! Here are some celeb kids we totally forgot about.
Trey Smith
Will, Jada, Jaden, Willow, and...Trey? Who's Trey?
Born Willard Carroll "Trey" Smith III, he's Will Smith's child from his first marriage to Sheree Fletcher. The couple divorced in 1995, and Will went on to marry actress Jada Pinkett in 1997. Will and Jada have two kids together, Jaden and Willow. This big, blended family reportedly hunkers down in a humongous 25,000-square-foot compound in Calabasas, Calif.
Trey, who turned 25 in 2017, hasn't been completely hidden from the public eye. Most notably, he made an appearance in his father's music video for the 1997 song "Just the Two of Us." However, aside from the occasional red carpet appearance and Instagram post, he's not making headlines in magazine features or TV interviews. Trey attended a traditional high school and was even a star player on the football team. He shares a love for music with his father and spins tunes under the name DJ AcE. He even collaborated with baby bro Jaden on the track "Find You Somewhere."
The next time you hear someone say, "Who's Trey?" give them the 4-1-1. No questions asked.
Alaia Baldwin
In their heyday, Stephen Baldwin and brothers Alec, Billy, and Daniel turned Hollywood into their own personal playground, but as they matured, they started families of their own, and their kids have now taken over as the new stars and starlets of Tinseltown.
Stephen and his wife, Kennya, got married in 1990, and in 1993, they welcomed their eldest daughter, Alaia, into the world. Three years later, daughter Hailey was born. Hailey (pictured right) is now the most recognizable of her Baldwin generation, thanks to her short-lived romance with Justin Bieber, her BFF status with the Jenner-Kardashian crew, and the Tommy Hilfiger ad campaign where she and model Lucky Blue Smith paid homage to the '90s.
What many fans don't realize is that Alaia (pictured left) is a successful model in her own right. She remains super low-key on social media, and she doesn't even have a blue check mark next to her name to validate her profile on Instagram (oh, the horror!) She's still very much dedicated to modeling, but being a wife to hubby Andrew Aronow and staying "normal" is more her speed. "You can choose how exposed you do or don't want to be," the 22-year-old told Marie Claire in 2016.
If Alaia ever struts away from the modeling world, she could definitely give a seminar on how to live life under the radar.
Chet Hanks
Chet Hanks (or Chet Haze as he goes by in the hip-hop world) is the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. A lot of people know Chet exists, but they have a hard time wrapping their heads around this controversial young man being the son of one of Hollywood's most legendary power couples.
Wilson has starred in a series of blockbuster hits, including Runaway Bride and Sleepless in Seattle, and Hanks is an cinematic icon whose resume includes Forrest Gump, Sully, Castaway, and Saving Private Ryan. He's also been touted as "the nicest guy in Hollywood" — a star who's never been in trouble with the law or stirred up much in the way of bad press.
Chet, who celebrated his 27th birthday in 2017, seems to be doing his best to become the antithesis of his dad, making headlines for his tattoos, his music career, his past drug use, and his habit of hurling the n-word.
Raymond Nicholson
Believe it or not, Jack Nicholson has five kids. Yes, five. That includes Raymond, who is the son of Rebecca Broussard and the spitting image of his dad. He's also simultaneously channeling the appearance of a young Leonardo DiCaprio. How's that even possible? Who knows! Moving on.
One thing's for certain, Jack and Ray, who'll turn 26 in 2018, are like two peas in a pod. They've been spotted at Los Angeles Lakers games, fundraisers and living it up on a yacht in the Mediterranean.
We may not know much about Ray, but we do know that he had a role in the 2006 Rob Schneider and David Spade film The Benchwarmers. Jack also gave us some insight into his youngest son's drive and determination during an interview with AARP Magazine (via People). The Shining star said, "Ray is fab ... Ray might not tell you exactly what he's up to, but once he's got his mind set on something, he's gonna stick to it and take care of business, no matter what me or anybody else says."
Maya Thurman-Hawke
Do you remember when Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke were Hollywood's "It" couple? We know, their 1998 wedding feels like it happened so long ago, yet the demise of their relationship is still fresh in our minds. Before their divorce in 2005, Hawke and Thurman had two children together, Maya and Levon. Although Maya, who celebrated her 19th birthday in 2017, has started to make a name for herself as a model, she's still one of Hollywood's forgotten kids.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Maya spoke about being raised far away from Hollywood, splitting her time in between New York City and Woodstock, N.Y. "They kept me out of the public eye, which helped a lot, I bet," she said. "The truth is, I have made very few public appearances, and when I have, my parents have been very careful to allow me to have my own experience."
Hazel, Henry, and Phinnaeus Moder
Julia Roberts may be one of the most recognizable actresses in the industry, but most people wouldn't be able to point out her children in a lineup even if they tried. You'd be hard pressed to find a picture of these tykes on Instagram or Facebook. Roberts doesn't even do social media.
The actress and her husband, producer Danny Moder, have done an excellent job intentionally keeping their children away from the limelight. Roberts told USA Today, "We just want to have our family life and not have that intruded upon."
But is she taking things too far? It may seem like Henry (born in 2007) and twins Hazel and Phinnaeus (born in 2004) have been somewhat cut off from the outside world, but oddly enough, they don't even know "we" exist! Roberts told Express that her kids are completely clueless about her occupation. "They'll find out one day, but by the time they're teenagers they'll have stuff in their lives that's far more interesting than what their parents' jobs are," she said.
This just makes her children's lives that much more fascinating. Of course, we respect their need for privacy, but we'd love to be a fly on the wall when they find out their mom is an award-winning actress!
Connor & Isabella Cruise
And the "most inconspicuous celebrity kids" award goes to: Connor and Isabella Cruise!
Connor has an Instagram page with not nearly as much followers as other A-list celebrity kids, and judging by the photos of his fishing excursions, we're going to assume he doesn't have any immediate plans to live his life in front of cameras like his parents, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
Connor and sister Isabella were adopted by the Hollywood couple prior to their 2001 divorce. After Tom and Kidman parted ways, the kids chose to live with Tom, according to an interview Kidman gave with Hello! magazine (via Vogue).
It's unclear why these kids have remained far away from the spotlight, considering Tom's daughter Suri, whose mom is ex-wife Katie Holmes, has been paraded in front of the paparazzi in her kitten-heeled pumps since the time she could walk. Go figure.
Ava Sambora
Another celebrity kid we don't hear about very often is Ava Sambora, the daughter of Melrose Place actress Heather Locklear and Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora. Locklear gave birth to Ava in October 1997, and though the couple went their separate ways in 2007, they've put up a united front when it comes to raising their daughter.
In 2013, mom and dad made a rare public appearance together as they co-hosted Ava's 16th birthday party, and that seems to be when the world noticed that Ava is the mirror image of her mom. In 2015, Ava initially planned to attend NYU, but she wound up at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles instead, according to the Inquisitr. By 2016, she was following in her mom's footsteps and modeling bikinis on the beach.
She may have lived a sheltered life before, but it seems Ava is definitely ready to show the world what she's all about. She participated in the YouTube reality series Summer Break 3, telling People, "I want to do all of those things that I've never gotten to do, like go on trips, but maybe go paintballing and have different adventures too.".
Zelda Williams
In 2014, the world was rocked when funnyman Robin Williams committed suicide at his home in Tiburon, Calif. He left behind his wife, Susan Schneider, and three children from previous marriages, including his daughter Zelda, whose mom is ex-wife Marsha Garces Williams.
First things first: yes, Zelda was named after the princess in the video game The Legend of Zelda.
Following her dad's tragic death, Zelda talked about her life under the radar. "I didn't really grow up in the spotlight, we lived in San Francisco," she told talk show host Chelsea Handler. In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zelda said she spent most of her childhood "playing video games and reading comic books, not talking Hollywood."
Zelda, who turned 28 in 2017, seems ready to leave her life of anonymity behind and join her dad's former profession. In 2016, she was hired to play the transgender character Drew on the Freeform series Dead of Summer.
Matilda Ledger
Michelle William and the late Heath Ledger fell in love on the set of Brokeback Mountain, and in November 2005, the couple welcomed a baby girl named Matilda.
Tragedy struck in January 2008 when Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose at the age of 28. Though the the couple had parted ways the year prior, Williams and Ledger had been committed to parenting their little one together. The actress released a statement following the tragic loss: "I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day."
In the years since his death, many fans have forgotten about Matilda, and that's no accident. Williams has worked diligently to give her daughter a "quiet, private life," reported E! News. "We moved — we left Brooklyn and lived in the country for six years because [dealing with paparazzi] was an intolerable state of existence," Williams told the New York Post.
The actress told Today that her daughter, who turned 12 in 2017, doesn't even have a phone. "I've just said, it's non-negotiable. I've taken such a hard line on it," Williams said. "I believe in animals for children. We have a lot of animals. On her birthday I'd knit her a scarf when she was growing up. I tried to keep excess out of her life. You want everything for your kid. You want them to be happy and free from pain and you want that look on their face. But ultimately it's for their own good."
Cassandra Jade Estevez
Most people are aware of Sam and Lola, the two children Charlie Sheen had with ex-wife Denise Richards, and twins Bob and Max, his kids with third wife Brooke Mueller. But a lot of people are clueless to the fact that there's another child in Sheen's family tree. He and his high school girlfriend, a woman named Paula Speert, have a daughter who goes by the name Cassandra Jade Estevez, which just so happens to be Sheen's real last name – but that's a story for another day.
Cassandra made a stunning appearance in 2010 on her wedding day when Sheen walked her down the aisle to the sound of "Flightless Bird," according to People magazine. The rest of Estevez's life remains largely a mystery, but one thing's for certain: she strongly supports her dad, despite his numerous scandals. In a conversation with E! News in 2011, she promised the world she would "someday" come forward and dish about her famous father. We'll be waiting...
