Megyn Kelly Slams Jane Fonda On Today Show
The TV journalist isn't going down without a fight.
In response to actress Jane Fonda's recent shade against her, the Today show's Megyn Kelly took some time to address their apparent feud on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, firing back at the Grace and Frankie star for her harsh words. After showing a clip of their September 2017 exchange on Megyn Kelly Today, during which a visibly upset Fonda snaps at the TV host for asking about her past with plastic surgery, Kelly told viewers, "When she first complained — publicly after the program and repeatedly — I chose to say nothing, as my general philosophy is what other people think of me is none of my business."
Kelly continued, "However, Fonda was at it again last week, including here on NBC and then again elsewhere, so it's time to address the 'poor me' routine."
Noting that Fonda had been on her show to promote a "movie about aging," the 2017 film Our Souls at Night, Kelly explained that she had no idea that talking about growing older and getting plastic surgery was "off-limits," considering how the actress had previously discussed those same topics to a variety of other media outlets. To prove her point, Kelly even showed a montage of clips featuring Fonda do just that.
"Look, I gave her a chance to empower other women — young and old — on a subject which she purports to know well, and she rejected it. That's okay," Kelly stated. "But I have no regrets about that question. Nor am I in the market for a lesson from Jane Fonda on what is and is not appropriate."
Kelly went on, "After all, this is a woman whose name is synonymous with outrage. Look at her treatment of our military during the Vietnam war." Sharing old photos of Fonda, she elaborated, "Many of our veterans still call her 'Hanoi Jane' thanks to her radio broadcast, which attempted to shame American troops." Kelly also referenced when Fonda posed with a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun, as part of her controversial activism in the 1970s.
"By the way, she still says she's not proud of America," Kelly added. "So the moral indignation is a little much. She put her plastic surgery out there, she said she wanted to discuss the plight of older women in America, and, honestly, she has no business lecturing anyone on what qualifies as offensive."
Ouch. Clearly, Kelly is not interested in hearing her name dragged through the mud — at least, not at the hands of the Barbarella star.
