Dennis Rodman Enters Rehab Following DUI Arrest
The former basketball pro is getting help.
On Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, the Associated Press reported that Dennis Rodman had checked himself into a treatment facility in New Jersey. His agent, Darren Prince, revealed that the celebrity is seeking help for his battle with alcoholism.
His admittance into the Turning Point Rehabilitation Center in Paterson, N.J. comes just days after he was arrested for an alleged DUI. As Nicki Swift previously reported, Rodman was taken into police custody on Jan. 13, after he was pulled over for a traffic violation in Newport Beach, Calif. Though he was reportedly cooperative with police, Rodman failed to pass a field sobriety test. A breathalyzer test administered by the authorities revealed Rodman's blood alcohol level to be above the legal limit.
Rodman, who was already on probation, was reportedly taken to jail but was released the next morning without bail.
In a statement obtained by USA Today Sports at the time, Prince said, "It's no secret Dennis has been struggling on and off with alcoholism the past 17 years."
"He's been dealing with some very personal issues the past month and we're going to get him the help he needs now," Rodman's agent continued. "I've been his agent for 20 plus years and we're more like brothers. He's an amazing guy sober and deserves to find that happy place in his life with all he did to make his millions of fans happy during his NBA career. This is his chance to rebound in life so we ask for prayers and support from everyone."
As Us Weekly noted, Rodman has entered rehab before. In January 2014, he checked himself into a treatment center for alcoholism. He also appeared in the third season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.
