The Little-Known Reason Scott Disick's Dad Nearly Went To Jail
It's hard to believe there's anything that anybody doesn't know about Scott Disick at this point. The shady side of Scott is certainly no secret to fans of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." However, few people are aware of the little-known reason Scott's dad nearly went to jail.
Per IMDb, Kourtney Kardashian's baby daddy appeared on every season of the reality show. The self-appointed "Lord Disick" was an unabashed jerk to his long-suffering now ex-girlfriend. He evoked little sympathy from viewers thanks to his behavior. Over time, Scott's heavy drinking and partying spiraled out of control, resulting in hugely embarrassing incidents and several stints in rehab. Fans had no idea why Scott had gone so completely off the rails until news broke of the tragic deaths of Scott's parents. He'd been seriously struggling to overcome his grief, all of which had played out in public.
Scott was an only child and incredibly close to his mom and dad, Bonnie and Jeffrey Disick. They died in 2013/14 within three months of each other. Still, Scott kept silent on the subject, not discussing it on camera until April 2020. "Losing my parents is not an easy subject for me to talk about," Scott finally admitted (via Refinery21). "It puts me in a very vulnerable place to remember them and think about them." Scott rarely spoke about his family — so when the little-known reason Scott's dad nearly went to jail was revealed, it was a big shocker.
Scott Disick's dad narrowly escaped jail time
Scott Disick's father was arrested in December 2001 after stealing $3,000 from North Fork Bank in Eastport, Long Island. Star (via RadarOnline) broke the story in May 2012. They claimed that "Scott Disick has been hiding a dark secret threatening to drive a permanent wedge between him, Kourtney Kardashian, and the rest of her family." Clearly, it didn't, as the couple stayed together and welcomed two more children before finally splitting in 2015 (via Capital FM).
Star reported that at the time of the robbery, Jeffrey and Bonnie Disick were $391,000 in debt thanks to liens and judgements from numerous sources, including the federal government. Apparently, a year after the bank job, an anonymous tipster alerted authorities to Jeffrey being the perp. He subsequently surrendered himself to Suffolk County cops and was charged with felony grand larceny. Jeffrey eventually pled to the lesser charge of petty larceny, allowing him to escape a prison sentence. He was ordered to perform 140 hours of community service and pay $6,500 in restitution.
Little is known about the circumstances surrounding Scott's parents' deaths. According to The Sun, 63-year-old Bonnie died in October 2013 "following a long illness." Jeffrey was also 63 when he died in January 2014. He'd been diagnosed with cancer, but the actual cause of death is unknown. E! News reported Scott was "very sad" over his loss and that the Kardashians were rallying to comfort him.
Scott Disick could be losing the only family he has left
After years of filming for "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," Scott Disick became like a Kardashian family member. Despite Kourtney Kardashian moving on and getting engaged, then marrying Travis Barker, Scott still sent Kris Jenner flowers on Mother's Day. The Sun reports that Kris showed off the colossal bouquet on her Instagram stories. "Thank you — love you!" She wrote.
However, fans might see less of Scott on "The Kardashians," Hulu's reboot of the long-running E! TV show. Page Six reports that since his ex said "I do" to Travis, Scott has become somewhat persona non-grata. "Ever since Kourtney got married, he doesn't spend as much time with that whole group," a source claimed. "He's been kind of excommunicated because the priority is Travis. He had to regroup who his relationships are."
Kris shot the report down in flames, though. She vehemently denied the Instagram post from Paper magazine claiming that Scott had been nixed from the family. "Scott will NEVER be excommunicated from our family ... he's the father of my grandchildren and a special part of our family ... we love him, and not true!" Kris wrote in the comments section. However, it seems Kourtney feels a little differently than her mom. She admitted she wasn't happy producers covered Scott's reaction to her new relationship and wedding. "I was upset they chose to take my fairytale and include that part of it," she told Entertainment Tonight. "And then it just bothered me."
