The Stolen Movie Prop Ben Affleck Was Forced To Pay For

We hear about it all the time. Actors like to take a little (or large) souvenir from a movie set to remember the fun time they had filming. It's pretty common, right? So common that the celebrities can be pretty overt about what they're taking home and they'll get it free of charge, right? Well. Not always. Just ask Ben Affleck.

We know Affleck was going through a lot when he slipped back into his Batsuit for "Justice League," with the actor confessing to Los Angeles Times in January, "That was a bad experience because of a confluence of things: my own life, my divorce, being away too much, the competing agendas and then Zack [Snyder]'s personal tragedy and the reshooting. It just was the worst experience. It was awful. It was everything that I didn't like about this." Though it wasn't enough for him to want to leave the props behind.

While Batman (or Batfleck, if you please) is best known for helping people out of trouble, the star endured yet another thing he probably didn't like about shooting the movie when attempting to get a few freebies from the movie shoot as the masked superhero actually ended up getting him into a whole of trouble.

Ben Affleck stole from the Justice League set

Despite not having the best time on the set (to put it lightly) Ben Affleck still wanted a few memories from "Justice League," which ended up costing him dearly. The dad of three revealed all on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" in 2017, 'fessing up to having some pretty stick fingers. "There was some other stuff that fell off the truck, like the Batarangs and stuff," Affleck confessed, after he told Stephen Colbert he sadly didn't get to take home the famous Batmobile. "I kept getting these phone calls from the prop department, like, 'You sure you haven't found any of that stuff yet?'" he added, confirmed he did steal a few props from the set before joking, "You can't exactly have been stealing if you got billed for it, which is what happened to me at the end. Warner Bros. just sent me a check. Turns out Batarangs aren't cheap!"

In case you're not familiar, a Batarang is a boomerang in the shape of Batman's iconic logo — and it's not all too surprising that the prop department couldn't let Affleck nab one for free. Batarangs are clearly pretty valuable, as there' was one previously listed on Celebrity Authentics signed by Affleck that had an asking price of $959.99.

Not that paying out for a few props would have been too much of a stretch for this star, of course. Affleck has an eye-watering net worth of a huge $150 million.

Ben Affleck didn't learn his lesson about stealing from the set

Clearly Ben Affleck can afford to put his hand in his pocket to purchase a Batarang or two, so it may not be too surprising to hear that Affleck didn't exactly learn his lesson when it came to nabbing a few items from movie sets. Affleck confessed to Metro in January that he took home a memento from the set of his movie "The Tender Bar," revealing, "All these little advertisers, the flyers, the little props, the cigarette packs, I wanted to take it all. I grabbed a few things here and there, especially these little flyers and advertisers. The props and the set decoration were beautiful and so nuanced." He also shared that a big reason why he took things home with him was so he could become totally encapsulated in the movie, while the items had a lot of nostalgia for him. "It brought back a lot of memories of being that age and having that experience, and seeing the world from that point of view."

One thing we know Affleck never got his hands on, though? At least one of his Batsuits. Back in 2016, Hollywood Movie Costumes and Props reported that the iconic ensemble Affleck rocked in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was put on display for fans to see at San Diego Comic-Con. We're guessing security was probably beefed up to keep sticky fingers Affleck away...
