The Question Jaden Smith Hates Being Asked About His Dad
Jaden Smith has grown up from the time of his role in "The Pursuit of Happyness" and has made a name for himself beyond that of his famous parents, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, with projects such as Just Water. While some children of celebrities would prefer not to be compared to their parents, that doesn't seem to be Jaden's biggest pet peeve when it comes to those who ask about his father, as he revealed to HuffPost in a 2018 interview.
Although he shared with HuffPost that he wouldn't want to be in a live-action reboot of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" — the Peacock series on which his father starred that received a dramatic reboot titled simply "Bel-Air" in February 2022 (via Variety) — but would consider voicing a character in an animated reboot, Jaden provided his interviewer with one surprising question that he hates being asked, and it's about dad Will.
Jaden Smith hates being asked where his father is
In his interview with HuffPost, Jaden Smith answered a question about which question he hates being asked, and he explained that it's actually related to his father, Will Smith. While one might expect that Jaden could hate questions about his father's film and television roles, for instance, his answer was different.
It turns out that Jaden hates being asked about Will's location, saying, "I hate being asked where my dad is, as if I would drop the pinpoint on the exact longitude and latitude of the address of my father currently." From Jaden's comments to the outlet, it sounds as though his frustrations are rooted in safety concerns, since he added, "I always tell people just, like, the wrong side of the world. The wrong hemisphere, that's where my dad is. They're like, 'Oh, where's your dad?' I'm like, 'Dubai!' Anywhere else. Anywhere that's 100 million miles away from where he actually is."
Jaden's concerns aren't unfounded. According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Will has faced security issues in the past, including an incident that involved his friend Charlie Mack and a police officer.
Dad Will Smith has popped up in unexpected places
Even though Jaden Smith doesn't like being asked about his dad's location, Will Smith has actually shown up halfway across the world from where fans might expect him to be before. Following the controversial altercation that he had with host Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, Will was spotted in Mumbai, India, in April 2022 via People.
In late August 2022, the entertainer was then photographed on a train in Ecuador, where he was filming the documentary series "Welcome to Earth" for National Geographic, via the Daily Mail. According to the website for "Welcome to Earth," which is available to stream on Disney+ as a Disney+ Originals series, Will has traveled to other locations around the world while hosting the show.
Though Jaden might have been using Dubai as an example, Snopes reported, Will has also climbed to the top of the spire of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, for his YouTube Originals series "Best Shape of My Life."
