Why Kyle Richards Wasn't Invited To Her Niece Nicky Hilton's Wedding
"The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Kyle Richards dotes on her loved ones. Not only has she appeared on social media with her extended family, such as her nieces Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton Rothschild, but she also posts pics of her immediate family. In September, she took to Instagram and wrote, "We are fortunate enough to be the parents to the 4 best daughters in the world. Love you girls." One fan took to the comments section and said, "You have such a beautiful family @kylerichards18 and i love how close you are to each other ... You're the glue that holds that family together." However, another person differed, penning, "I hope your daughters never treat each other the way you treat your sisters."
Kyle and her sisters, Kim Richards and Kathy Hilton, were raised by single mother Kathleen Richards during the 1970s. According to E! News, Kim was a cast member of "RHOBH" during its first five seasons, while Hilton joined the franchise during season 11, per Bravo. Kyle and Kathy's relationship hit a rough patch during the 12th season, per Us Weekly. However, this isn't the first time Kyle, Kathy, and their loved ones experienced some familial drama. The family dynamics were also tested when Nicky tied the knot in 2015.
Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky may have angered the Hiltons
Kyle Richards Umansky and Kathy Hilton have eight children between them. Kyle has taken to Instagram to gush that her niece Paris Hilton is the "baby sister I never had." Farrah Aldjufrie, Kyle's eldest daughter, is also close with Paris and Nicky Hilton. Not only did Paris host her engagement party, per Bravo Insider, but Aldjufrie was also one of Nicky's bridesmaids, per the Daily Mail. However, certain members of Aldjufrie's family were excluded from the wedding celebrations.
According to Us Weekly, Nicky's dad, Rick Hilton, and Kyle's husband, Mauricio Umansky, were not on speaking terms. According to E! News, "Rick and his team wouldn't make Mauricio a partner, even after years of working there and a lot of success. So he left." The source also revealed that Mauricio was therefore no longer welcome at family gatherings. Another insider claimed, "Kyle was initially uninvited to Nicky's wedding because of Kathy. There was a lot of tension over the TV pilot Kyle has in development ..."
Kyle spoke about the invitation on an episode of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills." She told Lisa Vanderpump (via the Daily Mail), "I was told it would be better if I didn't come to the wedding, so I'm not going." She added, "Obviously, this is not something that makes me feel good, but it's Nicky's day and my sister Kathy's day as the mother of the bride so I have to respect their decision."
Kyle Richards attended Nicky Hilton's wedding without her husband
Nicky Hilton married James Rothschild in July 2015 at Kensington Palace, London. Per Vogue, the hotel heiress and her beau spared no expense as they declared their love in royal style. However, certain family members were not present as they exchanged their vows. Us Weekly dishes that her brother, Conrad Hilton, and aunt, Kim Richards, could not make their nuptials. Kyle Richards Umansky's husband, Mauricio Umansky, and their daughters, Sophia Umansky and Alexia Umansky, were also excluded from the celebrations.
And while Kyle was initially uninvited, she later decided to attend the wedding. On an episode of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, she said (via the Daily Mail), "I'm going just because I want to see her walk down the aisle." Apparently, Nicky's aunt wanted to see her niece as a bride. The Bravolebrity also added, "I don't think anyone can understand the dynamics between my sisters and me. I really don't want to talk about why I was dis-invited and then re-invited again — it's nobody's f***ing business."
And while the family drama was all the news when Nicky got hitched, time has healed the rift. In a 2019 interview with Inman, Mauricio dished, "We're good. We've made up, we're family. The families have made up. We've been good for over a year ... At the end of the day, time heals everything ... And I think that's what happened with us. And thank God."
