The Serious Injury Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Once Got During A Family Vacation

After Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was born in Namibia in May 2006, her father told the Namibian Broadcasting Corp (via the Associated Press), "We have had an incredible time with our family exploring the country, and (had) a truly peaceful birth of our daughter." But Shiloh's uneventful arrival would not be a harbinger of her future.

One year after Shiloh was born, Jolie said that her daughter reminded her a lot of herself and made a prediction about the toddler. "She's going to be a little bit of trouble!" Jolie told MSN (via People). As Shiloh grew up, she did, indeed, become an adventurous, active child whose antics kept her parents on their toes — even while they were at work. When Jolie was doing a photoshoot with The Hollywood Reporter in 2014, Shiloh asked if she could use the magazine's curved cyclorama backdrop as a skateboard ramp, but her mom said "no." And in a 2015 featurette for the movie "By the Sea," young Shiloh can be seen shooting at her dad with a slingshot on the set of the film.

While many of Shiloh's childhood escapades were harmless fun, when she tried her hand at an extreme sport during a family vacation, she ended up in the hospital.

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt got injured while snowboarding

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt traded her skateboard for a snowboard during a fun-filled family getaway in 2018, but the then-11-year-old suffered a spill that cut her time on the slopes short. According to Entertainment Tonight, the accident happened at Lake Tahoe and People spoke to a source who revealed that Shiloh was with her mother, Angelina Jolie, at the time. "Mom was very grateful to the team who helped her," said the insider. There were conflicting reports on which bone Shiloh broke — ET said it was her collarbone, but according to People's intel, she injured her arm. Whichever it was, she ultimately had to sport a sling.

Shiloh isn't the only member of her family who has been injured on the ice. When Brad Pitt hit the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala in 2012, he wasn't carrying a cane to make a fashion statement. According to Page Six, he revealed that he injured his knee for a noble reason during a ski trip. "I was carrying my daughter down a slope and I slipped. It was me or her. She's fine," recalled the father of six. The daughter in question was reportedly Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.

Not to be outdone, Angelina told E! that she, too, has sacrificed her own body for the sake of one of her children. When she similarly saved Maddox Jolie-Pitt from hitting the ground, she ended up with a cracked elbow.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's kids have a history of getting injured

Unfortunately for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, they can't always prevent their kids from getting hurt. During a 2015 trip to Phuket, Thailand, Pax Jolie-Pitt suffered a mishap of his own that resulted in a serious injury. According to Us Weekly, he learned that water isn't only dangerous when it's frozen after a jet-skiing accident left him with a broken leg.

In 2020, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt also injured one of her legs. The Daily Mail published photos of the teen using a pair of crutches, and while Angelina didn't share any details about what caused the injury, she revealed that it was bad enough to warrant surgery. In an essay for Time, she also shared that Shiloh had hurt her hip while her older sister, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, was dealing with some serious health issues of her own. "I have spent the last two months in and out of surgeries with my eldest daughter," Jolie wrote. She praised her daughters for their bravery and the way they supported each other during their recoveries, recalling, "I saw how all my girls so easily stopped everything and put each other first, and felt the joy of being of service to those they love."

In an interview with Extra, Jolie revealed that she got her first experience with the panic a child's pain can cause when Maddox Jolie-Pitt suffered an unspecified injury at a young age. "I was terrified," she recalled.

The Jolie-Pitt kids enjoy a variety of exciting activities

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's kids are experienced, intrepid world travelers whose participation in adrenaline-inducing activities continued even after their thrill-seeking resulted in a number of injuries. For instance, in a 2017 Vanity Fair interview, Jolie shared that she planned to take some members of her brood sandboarding in Namibia during a visit to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's birth country.

Shiloh got an early taste of the thrill of feeling the wind rush past her face in 2010 when she and her siblings zoomed across a zipline in Budapest, Hungary, per Just Jared, and in 2014, Celeb Digs reported that Shiloh had become so fond of skateboarding that her parents had her own private skatepark constructed on their property. The Jolie-Pitt brood is also rather adventurous when it comes to food, with Jolie telling "Good Morning America" in 2017, "They can eat a bag of crickets like a bag of chips." She also revealed that Shiloh is rather partial to chowing down on tarantula.

Aside from eating bugs and traveling the world with her family, Shiloh's hobbies include taking dance classes, per Us Weekly, and Closer Weekly reported in 2019 that she and her younger brother Knox Jolie-Pitt were excelling at a robotics class. By allowing Shiloh and her siblings to explore so many different interests, Jolie believes that she's raised a pretty incredible bunch of kids. "They're six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals," she told Vanity Fair. "I'm very proud of them."
