Who Is David Tennant's Actor Son, Ty Tennant?
David Tennant is known for his many acting roles. From portraying the tenth incarnation of the Doctor on "Doctor Who" to his role as Barty Crouch Junior in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and beyond, the Scottish actor has amassed a devoted fan following. The next generation might not be far behind him, and we aren't talking about regenerations, "Doctor Who" fans. David Tennant's eldest son, Ty Tennant, has become more publicly known because of his role as the teenage version of Prince Aegon Targaryen in the "Game of Thrones" prequel series "House of the Dragon" (via Hollywood Life).
For viewers who weren't previously aware that Ty is also an actor, the role may have come as something of a surprise. There's been plenty of talk about nepotism in the entertainment industry and so-called "nepo babies," as discussed by outlets including USA Today. Naturally, fans might assume that Ty's casting was little more than a way to create buzz over the "House of the Dragon" cast due to his famous adoptive father, but that doesn't seem to have been the case at all.
Ty Tennant is David Tennant's adopted son
David Tennant and his wife, Georgia Tennant (née Moffett), share five children together, and Ty Tennant is their eldest child. Ty is actually David's stepson — Hollywood Life reports that David legally adopted Ty after David and Georgia got married in 2011. A 2002 article from The Sunday Mirror (as archived by The Free Library) discusses Georgia's pregnancy with Ty and her life as a teenage mother at the time, where Georgia commented, "I'm proud of having Ty and I'm proud of the way we've coped with people's bad opinions of us. And this is the kind of stuff that makes people stronger."
Ty reportedly met David for the first time at five years old when Georgia was working on an episode of "Doctor Who" (via the Daily Mail). During a guest appearance on an episode of "Lorraine," Ty explained that he had looked up to David as a "hero" on television before he was ever adopted by him (per the Daily Mail).
Ty Tennant has had multiple acting roles
Although Ty Tennant has gotten more attention for his role as the teenage Aegon Targaryen on HBO's "House of the Dragon," it isn't his debut role as an actor. Ty, like his parents, has numerous acting credits to his name already, and he has even acted alongside dad David Tennant in the miniseries "Around the World in 80 Days" (via Hello!).
According to his IMDb page, Ty's first credited role was as himself in the television movie "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot" in 2013. He has also acted in the 2019 Fox Networks Group adaptation of "War of the Worlds." The 20-year-old noted during an interview to promote the series that he would like to follow his parents and maternal grandfather, Peter Davison, into the "Doctor Who" universe one day (per the Sunday Post). The latest incarnation of the Doctor will be portrayed by "Sex Education" actor Ncuti Gatwa, as announced on the show's official website, so Ty may have to wait a few more years before he accomplishes that goal.
