Inside Dylan O'Brien And Tyler Posey's Real-Life Friendship
Tyler Posey and Dylan O'Brien will probably go down in TV history as one of the best bromances ever, but fans can't help but wonder if the two are still friends after O'Brien opted out of starring in the "Teen Wolf" movie. "It was a difficult decision. A lot went into it," O'Brien told Variety. "The show couldn't be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did, and so many people there are extremely dear to me." He added that it "all happened very fast" and threw everyone for a loop. Ultimately, though, he realized that he didn't want to touch the story and change anything for his character, Stiles Stilinski.
The 31-year-old went on to say to Variety, "I just decided it was left in a really good place for me and I still want to leave it there. I wish them well and I'm going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it f******* kicks ass, but I'm not going to be in it."
"Teen Wolf" won't be the same without O'Brien, especially since his character was best friends with Posey's Scott McCall. Fans need not worry, though, since the two developed a genuine bond over the course of the show and have apparently remained friends to this day.
Tyler Posey and Dylan O'Brien hit it off from 'the get-go'
Tyler Posey — who everyone was talking about when he provided an update on his sobriety — and Dylan O'Brien's characters on "Teen Wolf" were the best of friends, but as it turns out, they were also best buddies behind the cameras. While they didn't know each other before they started working on the show, they both confirmed that they instantly connected when they met.
"I love to skateboard, I love punk rock — and I didn't really fit in with other actors, so this was the first time I saw another actor who seemed like a normal kid like me," Posey told BuzzFeed Celeb of his first impression of O'Brien. "And then I found out that he was — he grew up in a surf town and skated with his friends and played in a band, and we fell in love that day."
In 2011, O'Brien said that they were best friends right from the start. "Right from the get-go, when we met at the screen test, we were just instant buds. It wasn't awkward at all. We could just hang out and shoot the s***," he told Collider. The "Maze Runner" star added that he thought they would still be friends even if they didn't get their respective parts. "We were already exchanging numbers and were ready to hang out. I think that's a big thing that is really like the dynamic of our characters as well."
Tyler Posey and Dylan O'Brien treat each other like brothers
After the two met, Tyler Posey and Dylan O'Brien hit it off so well that they already planned on moving in together, which they eventually did. They had been roommates for years when they started filming "Teen Wolf." As Posey said at the "Teen Wolf" Comic-Con panel in 2017, "Before we booked the show, we were talking about moving in with each other. It just felt really right. It felt really cool," (via Hello Giggles). He also said that O'Brien helped him when he was at his lowest. "I go through a lot of gnarly, dark stuff too," he admitted. "I can't even say how many times Dyl has helped me see the better of things. This truly doesn't happen a lot, this dynamic we have here."
And according to O'Brien, his relationship with Posey is unconventional because it's rare for actors to develop a solid bond behind the scenes. "It's really rare to have a genuine relationship. There can be so many versions," he revealed at Comic-Con in 2015 (via Entertainment Weekly). "We are just like brothers." Meanwhile, Posey said that they plan to be lifelong besties, to the point where they even assigned one another a role in their future weddings. "We're probably each other's best mans [sic] at each other's weddings," Posey told Hollywire in 2013. "We talked about it one night in our hotel room."
