Inside Lenny Kravitz And Mariah Carey's Friendship
Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey are two superstar musicians who have maintained a strong friendship over the years. Back in 2012, Carey shared a photo of herself with Kravitz on Twitter and expressed hope that Kravitz might join her as an "American Idol" judge. "What's going on? need the info!! What about this combo? : ) if we could ever get him to do it!" Carey wrote while tagging the official "American Idol" Twitter account. Kravitz then responded to the tweet and referenced the history of his and Carey's companionship. "Girl, we've known each other since we were teenagers. How fun would that be?!" Kravitz wrote.
Kravitz also documented this occasion by posting the photo of himself and Carey on his Facebook account. He then elaborated on how he and Carey knew one another before either of them was working as a songwriter and musician. "Ran into my old friend Mariah in Morocco. We go waaaaaaaaayyy back! Before we were both making music," Kravitz said. In a sit-down interview, Kravitz further shared some details about his enduring friendship with Carey.
Lenny Kravitz knew Mariah Carey when she worked at a sports bar before fame
Lenny Kravitz knew Mariah Carey prior to the two of them becoming chart-topping pop stars. During a 2018 "Watch What Happens Live" episode, Kravitz revealed to host Andy Cohen and fellow guest Gayle King that he and Carey were friends before fame. Their friend group, he explained, was well aware that Carey was meant for stardom. "She knew she had the talent," Kravitz said of Carey. "We all knew she had the voice." The "Fly Away" singer then stated that he, Carey, and their other buddies spent a lot of time on the Upper West side of New York City. At the time, Carey was a coat check worker at a sports bar, Kravitz said.
He then added, "We knew [Carey] was going to make it. The talent was just too incredible." In a separate past interview with Cohen, Kravitz again praised Carey's talent, saying, "She was absolutely extraordinary." As the two singer-songwriters have gone on to become household names, Kravitz and Carey have worked on projects together and continue to publicly show each other encouragement.
Friends Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey have remained supportive of each other
Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey are a couple of friends who go way back and still support one another to this day! Aside from their friendship, the pair has collaborated on projects professionally, as they've been in two films together: "Precious" and "The Butler." Though they didn't share time on screen, the two were both in attendance and posed together at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009 to promote "Precious."
Additionally, Carey has given Kravitz some shout-outs on social media. In 2013, Carey shared a picture of her son Moroccan via Instagram wearing a large pair of sunglasses, which she compared to Kravitz's signature look. "Roc Starr doing his best @LennyKravitz impression," Carey wrote. The "All I Want for Christmas Is You" writer and vocalist more recently included Kravitz's work in a 2020 Instagram post, for which she shared a photo of herself posing next to a stack of books on her reading list. "Essential 2020 reading!" Carey captioned the image, in which "Let Love Rule," a 2020 memoir by Kravitz, was displayed among other books from the must-read lineup.
