Here's How Old Sofia Vergara Was When She Had Her Son
As Gloria Delgado Pritchett on ABC's "Modern Family," Sofia Vergara played the matriarch of the extended Pritchett family. Not only was she Claire Dunphy and Mitchell Pritchett's stepmother, but she was also the devoted mother of Manny and Joe. She told TVyNovelas (via Latin Times), "I am children person...I'm that typical gal at reunions who fights to hold the babies and they come easily to me." That sentiment was further cemented when she welcomed a new member of the Vergara family in 2016, per Instagram. In the selfie, Vergara smiled at the camera while holding baby Lucina, her baby cousin, proving that she's the person in the family who's always ready for a cuddle with the baby.
But Vergara's maternal instincts aren't reserved for the screen or her extended family members, as the star is also a mother in real life. Vergara, who is married to her second husband, Joe Manganiello, has a son from her previous marriage. Manolo Gonzalez Vergara often appears on his mother's Instagram feed, and the two are clearly besotted with each other. On her 50th birthday in July, Manolo posted a reel of photos of Sofia through the years. The "America's Got Talent" judge then returned the favor by sharing a clip of Manolo when he celebrated his birthday in September. In the video, it appears as if Sofia is much younger. Which begs the question — how old was she when she had her son?
Sofia Vergara was a teenage mother
Sofia Vergara was a teenage bride. Per People, the Colombian-born actor wed Joe Gonzalez when she was just 18 years old. They then welcomed their son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara in 1991. Sofia was just 19 years old when she became a mother. The couple then split two years later, leaving Sofia to raise her son as a single mother. However, Manolo soon became Sofia's motivation to reach her goals. She told Coveteur, "I was a single mother very early, and what made me wake up every day, what made me be responsible, was that I had the motivation that I needed to make money, to give my son all the things that I thought that he needed. A good education, a great college, good healthcare, to have money to send him abroad to get cultured — I wanted all those things for my son."
Even though she was a teen mom, Sofia didn't let that limit her potential for success. She achieved her career dreams and, in 2020, became the world's highest-paid actress for her role in "Modern Family." That year, she made $43 million, per Forbes. As for Manolo, it appears as if he's also chasing his dreams, just like his mother. He is the founder of a dog's clothing line, Canini by Baguette. Sofia gushed to Extra, "It's amazing! I am super proud of him. ... I love that he has the entrepreneur blood like me."
Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have expanded their family
Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello tied the knot in 2015. Just before their wedding, Vergara told Redbook that she was open to having kids with him. She said, "Joe is younger than me. He's 38. He's never had kids. How am I going to say no? I tell him if we're going to do this, we have to do it, like, now, because I don't want to be 50 with a baby." Vergara turned 50 in July, and they haven't had any kids. However, they have welcomed a fur baby into their family.
The actor appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2021 and revealed that she and Manganiello have a dog. Bubbles is a Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix, and the couple often post pictures of the pooch on their respective Instagram accounts. Per the Daily Mail, even though she had initially bought the dog for herself, Bubbles plays favorites. She said, "She arrived and completely ignored me. Went straight to Joe. She has taken everything that was mine." Vergara also appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," saying, "I have to say, he treats her like she's a little daughter he has."
A year after the Ellen interview, Manganiello commented on the situation at home. He also appeared on the show in April and dished, per People, that the relationship between Bubbles and Vergara has "gotten a little bit better, I think." And that's why mothers and sons, and fathers and daughters ...
