What Is Maddox Jolie-Pitt Studying At College?
Angelina Jolie's one of the most well-known names in Hollywood. From "Tomb Raider" to "Girl, Interrupted," Jolie not only has the name recognition, but the résumé to back it up. Beyond that, she's also known for her big family, which includes Jolie's six children.
Jolie and her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, adopted three of their kids and have three biological children. And even though they went through a publicly messy separation, the kids are still growing up and heading off to college like your average teens. They range in age from 14 to 21 and live private lives, while still supporting their mother at red carpet events, like the "Eternals" premiere (via Access).
Jolie's oldest, Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt, of course, was the first to leave the nest. He was born in Cambodia in 2001 and Jolie adopted him in 2002 from his birth country. That's also where she filmed "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" (via Today). She was still with her ex-husband, Billy Bob Thornton, at the time, but they separated shortly after the adoption. Pitt officially adopted Maddox in 2005, according to Today. For college, Maddox decided to go to a university closer to his birthplace.
Maddox Jolie-Pitt won't be joining the entertainment industry
Maddox Jolie-Pitt turned 21 in August, and he's been attending Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea since August 2019. While speaking with Extra at 2019's D23 Expo, Angelina Jolie shared that she had one of those "embarrass your children ugly cry" moments when dropping him off, but seeing how her kids all rallied around Maddox as he left for college was "very beautiful."
When it comes to what Maddox is studying while at the South Korean university, Today reported that he's a biochemistry major. People also reported from a source that he's studying Korean, as well. So even though Maddox's parents are two of the most famous people in the entertainment industry, he's not interested in the business — yet, anyway.
"They don't want to be actors," Jolie told Entertainment Tonight in 2016 while doing press for "Kung-Fu Panda 3." But she "didn't want them to miss the opportunity," and Knox, Pax, Zahara, and Shiloh all had small voice parts in the film.
One of Angelina Jolie's other kids just started college, too
While Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt is Angelina Jolie's second oldest kid, her third oldest, Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt was the second Jolie-Pitt child to go to college (at least publicly). PopSugar reported in July that Zahara is attending Spelman College, an HBCU in Georgia. Jolie is just as proud of her oldest daughter, posting a photo to her Instagram on July 31 of Zahara and "her Spelman sisters." And in a video posted to Instagram by the vice president of the college, Jolie shared how she was close to tears while dropping her daughter off. But, of course, she also shared that she's "so excited" to be part of the Spelman family of parents.
As Vibe reported, Zahara's major hasn't been revealed like her brother's. But the site suggests that because of Jolie's advocacy work with the United Nations and her children attending a few of these trips, that social justice or something of the sort could be on the roster. On February 9, Jolie shared a photo of her and Zahara at the Senate's introduction of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. She wrote that she was glad Zahara could be there to "share in the advocacy" ...and calm her famous mom's nerves.
