Cardi B Explains Her Rap Name In Hilarious Interview With Jimmy Fallon
The "Bodak Yellow" rapper had the Tonight Show host in stitches.
On Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, Cardi B (real name Belcalis Almanzar) visited The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and opened up about the history of her professional rap name. And, spoiler alert, it had everything to do with booze—and social media.
"You know what, my sister name is Hennessy, so everybody used to call me Bacardi," Cardi B explained to Jimmy Fallon. "Then it was my Instagram name, Bacardi, Bacardi B."
But apparently, her Instagram account kept getting deleted, so she took on a new nickname for her username: Cardi B. Still, Cardi B has her suspicions about why her former accounts got shut down. "I think it was Bacardi [the alcohol company] that had something to do with it," she said.
Cardi B, who recently got engaged to Migos' Offset, also spoke to Fallon about her plans for Christmas. While she appeared excited to return to her home in the Bronx, she admitted that she has no intention of buying any of her adult friends and family members gifts for the holidays. "No, cause you wanna know something? Everybody that I know got kids," she said. "And that's just a lot of kids."
"And I got new godkids that I don't know where," she continued. "You know, once you start making money, everybody wants you to be their kids' godmother or something."
But the best part of the entire Cardi B interview was her use of "Okurrrrr." Watch the entire hilarious interview above.
While we wait for more Cardi B interviews—or for her new single to drop on Friday, Dec. 22—read up the rapper's shady side.
