Katie Couric Comments On Matt Lauer Scandal
The TV journalist just responded to a question about her former Today show co-host.
E! News reports that Katie Couric has spoken out about Matt Lauer, who's been accused of sexual misconduct in the workplace. However, she didn't say much. After an Instagram user left a comment on one of Couric's recent posts, asking for her opinion on Lauer's firing, Couric replied with a polite but short answer.
"It's incredibly upsetting and I will say something when I'm ready to," Couric wrote. "Thanks for your interest."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Lauer was fired from NBC News after a colleague reportedly filed a complaint against him. Announcing his termination from the Today show, co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb read a memo from NBC News chairman Andy Lack.
"On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer," the note read. "It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company's standards. As a result, we've decided to terminate his employment."
Since then, Lauer has been accused of sexually harassing several of his female co-workers (via Variety).
In response, Lauer later released a statement. "There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry," his statement began. "As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappoint I have left behind at home and at NBC. Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed."
While we wait for Couric's full reaction to the Lauer scandal, learn all about Lauer's most questionable on-screen moments.
