Naya Rivera Refiles For Divorce From Ryan Dorsey Following Domestic Battery Arrest
The former Glee star's divorce is back on.
According to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, Naya Rivera has refiled for divorce from her husband of three years, actor Ryan Dorsey.
Citing irreconcilable differences, the "Sorry" singer has asked for joint custody of their 2-year-old son, Josey Hollis, and also requested that neither parent pay child support. She listed their separation date as Nov. 24, 2017—one day before Rivera was arrested and charged with domestic battery against Dorsey.
As Nicki Swift previously reported, the singer-actress was taken into custody late Saturday, Nov. 25, after police were called to her home in Kanawha County, W. Va. over a "domestic situation." Dorsey, whom Rivera called a "parental pushover" just a week before the incident, claimed that his now ex had hit him on the head and the lip while they were out on a walk with their toddler. He allegedly had video footage to prove it, and did not require medical attention. Rivera was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and released on $1,000 bond the following day.
Dorsey broke his silence on the incident with a message to the couple's fans and the press on Nov. 28. "This is a difficult time for everyone in the family especially for Naya and I," the Justified actor tweeted. "This isn't some reality show, this is our life, and I ask that everyone especially 'the media' please respect our privacy and treat us/the situation how you would want a loved one to be treated. Perhaps with kindness, respect, without judgement, and as negative a situation this is, with positivity and love. Thanks."
Rivera, 30, and Dorsey, 34, married in July 2014 following her split from her former fiancé, rapper Big Sean. After initially filing for divorce in November 2016, the Mad Families actress called off their separation in October 2017.
