Why We're Worried About Kylie Jenner's Baby
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott welcomed a baby girl on Feb. 1, 2018, the makeup maven confirmed on Instagram.
"I'm sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions," Jenner wrote. "I understand you're used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world. I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how. There was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness."
She added, "Pregnancy has been the most beautiful, empowering, and life changing experience I've had in my entire life and I'm actually going to miss it."
That's very sweet, but that doesn't mean this poor little lady is in for the easiest life. Here's why we're a bit concerned for Scott and Jenner's baby girl.
Jenner and Scott haven't been together very long
Sources told People in September 2017 that Jenner's baby was due in February 2018. She and Scott reportedly began dating in April 2017, which means she likely conceived less than two months into their relationship.
Have the expectant parents had a chance to genuinely get to know one another, or are they still deep in the honeymoon stage? Getting too serious too fast may not make for the most stable home life when the baby arrives, especially if Jenner and Scott realize they aren't compatible long-term.
Travis Scott is hardly around
TMZ reported that Scott was actually booked for back-to-back Super Bowl weekend performances out of town ... even though Jenner was due to give birth pretty much any second (and she did). He ended up bailing on one of the shows at the last minute, but was still slated for one of them, despite Jenner giving birth to their daughter just days earlier. Dude, take some paternity leave from touring!
Tyga says he's the father
Jenner's ex, Tyga, is still trolling her despite their split in April 2017, shortly before she started dating Scott. He posted a since-deleted Snapchat of a screenshot of a TMZ headline about Jenner's pregnancy and captioned it with several devil emojis, writing, "Hell nah that's my kid." He later told TMZ that the post was fake, but it's clear that he's not thrilled about the baby news.
"Tyga is not dealing with the pregnancy news very well," a source told Hollywood Life. "He feels absolutely gutted and feels it should have been him. He hates it and really is sad with the news. It is not something he wants to think about. The news really sucks for him."
Perhaps in an effort to troll Jenner and her family further, Tyga is now "full on dating" Kim Kardashian look-alike Kamilla Osman, People reported. Hey, maybe he just has a type.
Their daughter may suffer from low self-esteem
Jenner and Scott now have a baby girl, but this tyke may not have the best role models to foster healthy self-esteem. All the women in this baby's life, including its mom—whose insecurity reportedly led to over the top lip injections that inspired social media challenges—project unrealistic images of beauty that often focus on the superficial. Need we remind you that auntie Kim Kardashian published a 445-page book of selfies? This may not be the healthiest environment in which to grow up.
Kylie isn't mature enough to be a mom
In October 2016, Jenner and then-boyfriend Tyga explained why she wasn't pregnant or planning on getting pregnant or married at the time: because she is a child herself.
After first joking that she wasn't pregnant or married because her rapper beau was "slacking," Jenner said in a Snapchat video (via Hollywood Life), "'Cause I'm an infant and a child. And I don't want to be married and have a baby right now." Tyga concurred, "No, you're just a young woman who's focused on your career." Jenner then snapped, "No, I'm a baby."
Was she in a rush to have kids?
Some say Jenner wanted to be a young mom and that may have prompted her to rush into parenthood with Scott.
"Kylie always wanted to be a young mom," a source told Entertainment Tonight. "She may be young, but she's very maternal and has lots of practice with babies! She's a very hands-on aunt and was basically a stepmom to Tyga's kid."
On an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2016, Jenner said she wanted to have kids by age 27 because having a kid at 30 would be "too late." Uh, what?
A month later on Kocktails With Khloe, Jenner said (via InTouch Weekly), "I want kids for sure. I feel like seeing you guys go through everything, it's great knowledge. I feel like I want kids before I'm 30."
Prior to that, in 2015, she told Teen Vogue she wanted to become a mom in her twenties. "When I look to the far future and decide to have kids, I need to have a million girls," she said. "Ten years from now—in 2025—I hope I have a kid."
In June 2017, a source told OK! that Jenner has been desperate for a baby since she turned 18, when she was still dating Tyga. "Remember," the source said, "[Kylie has] wanted to be pregnant with Tyga ever since she turned 18 and they had plenty of near-misses when she thought she had conceived."
The baby will be thrust into the spotlight
Jenner struggled with growing up in the spotlight on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and considering she still appears on KUTWTK and also has her own spin-off, Life of Kylie, it's not surprising that her daughter may have similar complexes regarding fame and identity.
"Kim always said this is what she's made for, and I respect that, but it's hard to do normal things when every single person knows who you are," Jenner lamented on Life of Kylie in August 2017 (via Entertainment Tonight). "I for sure didn't choose this life, but I'm not going to say that I'm totally innocent, because I am keeping up this lifestyle... I know I'm making myself more famous by having an Instagram and posting photos, but I'm not that type of person, like, where I want all the attention. Like, I don't like that. It actually freaks me out because it reminds me that I'm Kylie f**king Jenner."
She added, "I don't know what it's like to live a normal life... I feel like when you grow up on camera, people feel like they know you. I started filming Keeping Up With the Kardashians when I was 9 years old... I feel like I've lost parts of myself." She added, "I'm putting up a version of myself to the world that isn't really me... I just feel like this fame thing is going to come to an end sooner than we think. I'm getting that bug again, where I just want to run away. I just don't know who I'm doing it for."
Travis Scott is surrounded by legal drama
In May 2017, TMZ reported that Scott was arrested for allegedly inciting a riot during one of his concerts in Arkansas, with police claiming that he encouraged fans to rush the stage during a performance, which undermined security protocols and could have potentially been really dangerous. Sources close to Scott claimed that he had no intention of putting anyone in danger, and that he simply noticed some open space in the front near the general admission section of the venue, so he encouraged fans who were further back to move forward.
Two years prior, he was busted at Lollapalooza for allegedly instructing fans to ignore security protocols and jump over barricades. Also in 2015, Scott was accused of getting into a physical altercation with a fan who was said to have tried to literally yank Scott's chain.
In late April 2017, TMZ reported that Scott offered a fan his ring after the fan allegedly jumped from a third floor balcony at his show and was injured in a failed attempted at a stage dive. Scott was accused of encouraging the fan to jump—an allegation he denied.
Most disturbingly, Scott was accused of sexual assault in a series of since-deleted tweets by former Sony Music employee Shane Morris. Scott denied the allegations, and no arrests were made or charges filed.
The tyke will have to compete for attention in the family
Kardashian's surrogate delivered her and Kanye West's third child in January 2018. While reports say Jenner is excited that her baby will have cousins close in age, the lil' lady will also have a lot of competition for attention. However, considering Jenner's distaste for fame, that may end up being for the best.
Kylie's own family may be worried
Jenner's own family may have doubts that she's ready for motherhood.
A source told People, "[The family thinks] Kylie is very naive. Spending time with other people's kids is obviously completely different than being a mom 24/7. Kylie of course has no idea about all the hard work and sleepless nights." The source added, "With Tyga, whenever things were good, Kylie said she wanted a baby. Between spending lots of time with her nieces and nephews, and being around Tyga's son [4-year-old King Cairo], she claimed she was ready. Her family would beg her to protect herself. They were very concerned."
The insider said Kylie's pregnancy "took some getting used to" for mom Kris Jenner. "But Kylie has always been very headstrong, she's always wanted to do her own thing despite what Kris says. Of course Kris just wants the best for her daughter and loves and supports her no matter what."
When asked about the pregnancy news at an appearance at Milan Fashion Week, Kris awkwardly replied (via Radar Online), "It wouldn't be the family if something didn't happen every single day... I just woke up this morning. She's not confirmed anything. I think it's kind of wild that everyone is just assuming that that's just happening."
Caitlyn Jenner is 'disappointed'
Kylie's father, Caitlyn Jenner, was reportedly unhappy with the baby news. "Caitlyn was really shocked and disappointed to learn that Kylie is pregnant," a source told Hollywood Life. "She thinks Kylie is way too young to have a baby, and that she should have waited until she was in a long-term committed relationship. Caitlyn is concerned that Kylie and Travis really haven't been dating very long, and that a baby will put a big strain on their relationship, but Kylie believes the exact opposite—that she and Travis will be together forever."
A rep for Caitlyn confirmed Kylie's pregnancy to The Sun, adding that Caitlyn was told about the news "some time ago."
Kris allegedly thinks the baby is bad for business
Kris supposedly isn't too happy about the baby news because, well, she's both a business manager and a mom and thinks the pregnancy will distract from Kylie's booming cosmetic business.
"Kris is just trying to control what she can and make sure no one forgets Kylie is also a businesswoman," a source told People. "She wants to set Kylie Cosmetics up to sell. Kylie has worked so hard to build that empire. Kris doesn't want to see the pregnancy affect how that is perceived."
The source was sure to add, "Of course, Kris will support Kylie being a mom, but she is still adjusting to the surprise news."
The baby may be a publicity ploy
Insiders believe that part of Kylie's motivation for motherhood was simply to increase her time in the limelight, despite voicing her reservations about it. A source told Radar Online that Kylie's hoping her baby and pregnancy will make for a second season of Life of Kylie, even though the first season didn't make a splash with critics or audiences.
"She was really hoping that this was going to be her big break and that it would land her a huge future in reality TV," a family source said.
"After reading some of the reviews, Kylie just realized how far removed from reality she really is," an insider told Radar Online. "She didn't know how detached she was until she saw how people reacted to her show. She is not a happy person to begin with and all this show did was solidify that to her fans."
The kid's parents are partiers
The night Kylie's pregnancy news broke, Scott reportedly partied in Miami with Kylie's controversial brother-in-law, Scott Disick. According to Entertainment Tonight, the duo ordered "Hennessy, Patron, Don Julio 1942, Ciroc Peach & Mango, and Moet"—despite Disick having well-documented struggles with alcohol abuse. That same weekend, Kylie threw her BFF Jordyn Woods a party at a wine safari, though Hollywood Life reported that Kylie abstained from drinking any booze herself. Even so, perhaps these parents-to-be should rein it in a bit.
The paparazzi will be on her tail in a big way
TMZ reported that because Jenner kept such an unusually low profile during her pregnancy, the eventual first paparazzi snaps of her post-baby will command a huge price tag. Considering the lengths paparazzi will go for a shot—invading privacy or tangling with traffic—photographers may end up putting their own lives at risk, in addition to the safety of Jenner and her baby. Considering Jenner may not be the best driver, the potential intrusion from press is cause for concern for mama and baby's well-being.
As fans and press wait impatiently for more information about Jenner and Scott's baby, now is the perfect time to dig deeper into this young couple's warp-speed relationship. There are a lot of unusual aspects to this romance, but here are some of the strangest...
Her family doesn't think the relationship will last
Because Kylie and Scott's relationship is so new, the family is really worried that there's going to be some baby mama (and baby daddy) drama with the couple, and the Kardashian Krew isn't confident they'll make it for the long haul.
"It's hard for her family to imagine Kylie's relationship with Travis will last," a source told People. "They are worried there will be lots of drama down the road." A source also told TMZ, "They're still trying to figure out their relationship."
Still, the family thinks Scott is a step up from her broke ex.
The source added, "[Scott] is nothing like Tyga. He doesn't have any obvious financial issues. He doesn't go behind Kylie's back, but it's a very new relationship they are bringing a baby into."
Kim wasn't happy about the news at first
A source told People that Kim was actually upset at Kylie's baby news in the beginning.
"Her first reaction was, 'Seriously?' She didn't respond well at first," the source said. "It's like she and Kanye had gone on this whole journey to get pregnant for months, and now this happens to Kylie. She teared up. It definitely took a lot of time for her to process it."
Still, Kim denied the rumors, and another insider told People, "Her family will help Kylie out as much as possible," noting that Kylie and big sis Khloe are happy to have their pregnancies concurrent with Kim's. "Kylie loves how close-knit her family is. They are looking at their pregnancies like a unifying experience for them as sisters. Getting pregnant at the same time was totally unplanned, but they are really happy about it."
He was her rebound from Tyga
Insiders claim that while Jenner and Scott may be deeply in love now, she initially started getting close to him to irk her ex rapper beau, Tigga, with whom she had a tumultuous on-again-off-again relationship.
"Travis and Kylie have been friends for a while and they all hang out," a source told People early on in Jenner's romance with Scott. "When she and Tyga are having drama, she tries to make him jealous by hanging out with other guys. When Kylie is happy, they're happy—but it's never that simple. There's always some kind of drama with Kylie and Tyga."
They have matching tattoos
In June 2017, Jenner and Scott made their love permanent in a different way. The pair flaunted matching ink at Khloe Kardashian's 33rd birthday party.
"They recently got matching butterfly tattoos on their ankles that they were showing off to their friends and family," a source told People. "They were super affectionate and Travis was constantly kissing Kylie on the cheek and whispering in her ear. Their relationship seems to be getting stronger and they're closer than ever."
She was a commitment phobe
Jenner seemed to be in no rush to be tied down or to make a long-term commitment, and, well, now she's got an 18-year commitment to a child, which gives those close to her some pause.
"Kylie broke up with Tyga partly because she felt too young to get serious," a source told People. "Now she's having a baby with a guy she just started dating. People around her are really surprised. It happened really fast, but for Kylie, being with Travis is so different than anyone else. She's so in love with him. She's really excited."
Jenner addressed her commitment issues on her reality show, Life of Kylie (via InTouch Weekly). "There was absolutely not one thing wrong with me and [Tyga]. He and I will always, always have a bond," she said. "There was no crazy fight, we just decided—well, I decided that I'm really young. I don't want to look back in five years from now and feel like he took something from me when he's really not that type of person."
Scott is Rihanna's ex
Before hooking up with Jenner, Scott was linked to Rihanna in September 2015 (and is seen here with Jenner's half-brother-in-law, Kanye West), though the romance was seemingly short-lived.
"Travis and Rihanna are dating, officially," a source told E! News. "It's already very serious. He's very into her... Rihanna likes Travis a lot and hopes it develops into something more. All of her friends think he is gonna be the keeper." The source added, "Travis is completely her type and they share the same interests."
Jenner can add Scott to the list of traits she shares with RiRi, including cosmetics empires, Puma deals, and scantily-clad Instagram posts.
She doesn't think she can have a normal relationship
Jenner lamented on Life of Kylie (via InTouch Weekly) that it's tough for her to have a normal relationship with anyone.
"The hardest part about having a relationship for me is just that it's blasted all over the Internet. You have to hear about other people's opinions on who you're with," she said. "It's a lot. Most of the time it's just not true. Like, you have no idea what I'm like in a relationship, or what kind of bond I have with somebody else." She added, "You cannot win the Internet. There's no winning. It's just unnecessary negativity. I feel like I'm in a relationship with the world sometimes."
She's scared of being alone
Jenner is reportedly terrified to be alone, especially in her own massive Beverly Hills mansion, so reports say that she invited Scott to move in with her after less than six months together.
"It's a big a** house and Kylie honestly doesn't want to be there alone with her dogs," a source told Hollywood Life. "She would be too scared [to be by herself]. She wants to feel protected and secure and Travis provides that. Besides, she wants someone to keep her warm at night and to tell her how beautiful she is in the morning. And the only man she wants to make her feel that way and tell her that is Travis! They're really into one another and she's the one who suggested that they play house and see how living under one roof would be." The source added, "She doesn't want him to pitch in financially, she just wants his presence!"
There are no shotgun wedding plans...
Sources told People that Jenner and Scott have no immediate plans to wed. That seems in line with how her mom, Kris Jenner, reacted to TMZ cameras in August 2017: when asked if Scott has her blessing to marry Kylie, mama Kris cracked up laughing.
...because they may already be married
Maybe the reason there are no wedding plans is because they already had one! A source told Life & Style that despite the Kardashians' propensity for televised weddings (and breakups), Kylie and Scott may have gotten married privately and quietly.
"Kylie and Travis tied the knot at her Calabasas mansion," an insider dished. "It wasn't a big, glamorous affair like other Kardashian weddings, and only a few close friends were invited. But Kylie is crazy about Travis. There were no official E! cameras there, but Kylie asked her friends to film the special moment on their iPhones."
If this is true, we're willing to bet mama Kris was breathing down Kylie's neck to get a prenup!
