Serena Williams Gives Birth To First Child
It's official! The tennis superstar is a mother.
E! News confirmed that Serena Williams has given birth to her first child with fiancé and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. And—drumroll, please—they had a baby girl!
Reporter Chris Shepard was the first to reveal the big news on Sept. 1, 2017, tweeting, "Tennis star Serena Williams gives birth to a baby girl weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Mom and baby doing well."
Getting ready for her U.S. Open match on Sept. 1, Serena's sister Venus spoke with ESPN about becoming an aunt. "Obviously I'm super excited," she said. "Words can't describe."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Serena was rumored to have gone to St. Mary's Medical Center in Palm Beach, Fla. on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Labor was reportedly induced the following night.
Serena accidentally announced her pregnancy back in April by posting a photo of her baby bump on Snapchat, including the caption, "20 weeks." She soon confirmed the pregnancy, later revealing that she'd be taking some time off from tennis. However, Serena's expected to resume her pro tennis career sometime in 2018.
Congratulations to both Serena and Ohanian! We can't wait to learn more about your new little bundle of joy!
