Mel B Ends Marriage To Stephen Belafonte After 10 Years
After ten years of marriage, Mel B has filed for divorce from film producer Stephen Belafonte, E! News reported.
According to court documents obtained by the publication, the former Spice Girl turned America's Got Talent judge (real name Melanie Brown) cited "irreconcilable differences" as grounds for the divorce. As People further detailed, the divorce comes after Brown filed for a separation on December 28, 2016 and requested joint custody of the couple's five-year-old daughter, Madison Brown Belafonte. Additionally, Brown asked that the court terminate spousal support to Belafonte.
The news comes a little over a month after Brown posted a PDA photo of the two celebrating Belafonte's birthday on Instagram, captioning it, "My baby boo @stephenthinks11 we have been through everything that would normally tear couples apart and we have come out on the other side stronger, you loved me before I even new [sic] how to really love myself." The singer ended the celebratory tribute with a series hashtags: "#tenyearsmarried #fightfortheineyoulove #theysaiditwouldntlast #b*tcheswishtheyhadthis #nowtalkaboutme".
According to E! News, Mel B and Belafonte eloped in Las Vegas in June 2007 after dating for a mere five months, and later renewed their vows the following year in a ceremony with friends and family that took place in Egypt. In addition to their daughter Madison, their blended family includes Brown's daughters Phoenix Chi Gulzar, 18, with ex-husband and former backup dancer Jimmy Gulzar and Angel Iris Murphy Brown, 9, with ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy. Belafonte shares daughter Giselle Belafonte, 12, with ex-girlfriend Nicole Contreras.
