Gossip Girl Star Makes Rare Public Appearance

After an extended maternity leave, Leighton Meester is slowly returning to the spotlight.

The erstwhile Blair Waldorf was spotted donning a black Prabal Gurung Resort 2017 pantsuit at the Saks Downtown Men's Opening in New York City on February 22.

The actress, who welcomed daughter Arlo Day with husband Adam Brody in 2015, will next star in Making History, premiering March 5 on Fox. It's a far cry from her role as the fashionable and fierce queen of the Upper East Side on Gossip Girl. This time around Meester will play a time-traveling colonial woman.

"I'm proud to work on a show that uplifts the female lead, and has a not-so-subtle yet approachable commentary on the treatment and mistreatment of women throughout the ages," the 30-year-old explains to Rogue magazine (via E!).

In addition to her return to the small screen, Meester's likewise busy working on new music.

"I really have been missing writing, so I've been doing it on and off [for] the last year or so," she continues telling the magazine. "I worked with awesome people when I released my first album in 2014. I'm hoping to do it again...I'm writing a bit about my current state of mind, which brings me to a happier place, but I still find a lot of inspiration from past experiences, and that leads to some more melancholy that I just can't escape."
