Adele Turns Down Offer To Perform At The Super Bowl
Our condolences to anyone who wanted to hear "Hello" at halftime—Adele won't be performing at the 2017 Super Bowl. Rumors circulated earlier this month that the "Send My Love" singer, 28, would perform at the big game in February.
"There is nobody bigger in the world than Adele right now and organizers are doing absolutely everything they can to try to persuade her to sign up," an NFL source told The Sun. "She's sold out every date on her tour, everyone wants a piece of her and they know they can bank on her bringing in the viewers. It's Adele's nerves that are the issue—it hasn't been an easy sell."
Unfortunately, she put the kibosh on that talk over the weekend during a concert in Los Angeles.
"First of all, I'm not doing the Super Bowl," Adele says in the clip. "I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don't really—I can't dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no. I'm sorry, but maybe next time, for my next album."
At least she confirmed it onstage with a lighthearted tease: "I'm going to do a dance album next time! Maybe I'll do it then...I'm not Beyonce, I can't dance!"
The NFL denied extending Adele an official offer for the gig. On the other hand, they claim they haven't approached anyone else with a formal offer.
"The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show," the NFL and Pepsi announced in a statement to Billboard. "However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time."
Super Bowl LI is set to happen on February 5, 2017 at Houston, Texas' NRG Stadium. Adele's current tour, Adele Live 2016, will continue through until November 15, 2016.
