What You Need To Know About OutDaughtered's Hazel Busby

Although every Busby quint is special and adorable, Hazel Busby especially stands out thanks to her red hair and incredibly sweet personality. She also has a sassy and confident side, as her doting mom, Danielle Busby, noted in an It's A Buzz World blog post. "Hazel is so independent and could care less if her sisters are in same room as her...she is super social and confident, she will do amazing meeting new friends," Danielle wrote in 2018 ahead of the new school year.

As far as development goes, Hazel was the last quint to start walking and she has struggled with a health condition throughout the run of TLC's OutDaughtered. But no matter what has been thrown her way, the little star — who was born in 2015 — has persevered. Cheering Hazel on are her five sisters, Blayke, Riley, Olivia, Parker, Ava, parents Danielle and Adam Busby, and, of course, her beloved uncle, Dale.

Hazel Busby was diagnosed with congenital Nystagmus

When Hazel Busby was just 5 months old, she diagnosed with congenital Nystagmus, an incurable condition that causes "involuntary eye fluttering," as the Busbys noted in a 2016 Facebook post. Hazel had to undergo major eye surgery at age 1 in Season 2 of OutDaughtered, as Danielle Busby explained during a 2017 episode of the show, "This is surgery fix is not even about her vision. It's more so to just correct the placement of where her eye goes to focus better so she doesn't have to turn her neck."

Despite the procedure's success, Hazel's condition is ongoing, and she'll require additional eye surgeries. "It's something she was born with and she'll have it the remainder of her life," Danielle explained to Us Weekly in 2019, adding that another procedure is "inevitable." This came to a head in a promo for Season 7 of OutDaughtered, with Adam and Danielle found out Hazel's scheduled eye surgery to address her increased neck turning had to be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The parents appeared worried about the development, especially since Hazel is "a lot more aware of what's going on" now that she's older, as Adam explained.

In a June 2019 Instagram post, the Busbys praised Hazel, writing, "We are so thankful for her amazing attitude and how she takes every difficulty in stride. Here is to hoping that one day, a doctor somewhere can crack the code on this rare condition."

Hazel is best buddies with Uncle Dale

One of the sweetest factoids about Hazel Busby is that she has a special bond with Dale Mills, aka Uncle Dale. The doting uncle is married to Danielle Busby's sister, Crystal Mills, and they live nearby to the Busbys in Houston, Texas.

For fans who haven't already noticed, Hazel and Dale also go by the name "Dazel," a moniker that pays homage to their sweet friendship. Dale regularly posts pics of Hazel to his Instagram account, and in December 2019, he captioned a cute snap of the pair, "Nothing says Christmas Eve like a quick #DAZEL pic!" Aww!

Many fans seem to love the duo, as evidenced by the many gushing comments on social media. "You two have the cutest bond!" one person wrote to Dale, while another commenter penned, "My sweet Hazel. Hazel loves Dale so much because Uncle Dale has a big heart."
