Calvin Harris Breaks Up With Taylor Swift
And another one bites the dust. People magazine confirmed on June 1, 2016 that Taylor Swift has split from her boyfriend of 15 months, DJ Calvin Harris. "There was no drama," a source for the magazine claimed. "Things just don't work out sometimes." The source went on to insist that "no one cheated."[credit=Getty Images
What went wrong?
Sources for Us Weekly seem in line with People's no-drama breakup theory, although they claim that Harris was the one who actually pulled the trigger. "Taylor is doing OK now but she was upset," the source said. "It just wasn't working anymore."
According to People, the couple's busy schedules may have been a contributing factor to their breakup. In January, Harris—who is recovering from a pretty nasty car accident—signed a three-year residency in Las Vegas. Swift, meanwhile, was on tour for much of 2015.
But they seemed so happy
The breakup news was shocking. In April 2016, Swift publicly thanked Harris during a speech at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. "For the first time I had the most amazing person to come home to when the crowds were all gone and the spotlight went out, so I'd like to thank my boyfriend Adam for that," she said, according to E! News. (Harris' real name is Adam Richard Wiles.)
She also had high praise for Harris while speaking to Vogue that same month. "I'm in a magical relationship right now," she said. "And of course I want it to be ours, and low-key...this is the one thing that's been mine about my personal life." The couple took a tropical vacation in March 2016 shortly after celebrating their one-year anniversary.
Moving on
Swift's breakup from Harris is just the latest in a string of high-profile failed relationships for the country-turned-pop singer. She previously dated Jake Gyllenhaal to Harry Styles and John Mayer, all of whom have allegedly inspired songs. In other words: get ready, Calvin, because you're totally next.
