Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Reportedly 'Determined' To Have A Private Honeymoon
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are heading off on their honeymoon sooner rather than later.
According to an Entertainment Tonight exclusive, published on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, the royal couple reportedly plan on escaping the media frenzy surrounding their wedding to an extremely private African destination.
"One of the places they're looking at is a lodge that is so remote that it requires an off-land Land Rover to get there [and] a satellite phone because there are no connections," royal expert Katie Nicholl told the publication. "You have to take a supply of food and water with you because you're right in the middle of nowhere and if you break down without supplies, you're in trouble. That gives you some indication of how remote this place is."
With the belief that Africa is "without a doubt, the destination," Nicholl added that possible locations include Zimbabwe and Namibia, both of which the prince knows well.
"We were told by Kensington Palace that the couple weren't going to go on a honeymoon immediately — they wanted to take a little bit of time after the wedding," the royal expert continued. "And they had said in that engagement-day interview that they planned to hit the ground running."
They certainly did, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended their first royal engagement as a married pair at a Buckingham Palace garden party held in honor of Prince Charles' 70th birthday on Tuesday afternoon.
Nicholl went on, "One wonders if perhaps the reason they're doing this engagement today is to put the spotlight back on them, so they can then slip off quite quietly. We've had the wedding pictures, we've had the first engagement, so I'd imagine at some point in the next week to 10 days, things will go very quiet on the Sussexes and that will probably be because they've crept off very quietly to go [on] what Harry is determined to be a private honeymoon."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Prince Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, tied the knot on Saturday, May 19, at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. The couple, who may be planning a visit to the duchess' father in Mexico before jetting off on their honeymoon, became engaged last November. They have been together since the fall of 2016.
