Avicii's Family Releases Statement Following His Death
Avicii's family is breaking their silence.
On Monday, April 23, 2018, the family of the late Swedish DJ (whose real name is Tim Bergling) released a statement in appreciation of the outpouring of love and support they've received following his sudden death late last week.
"We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother," the statement read (via E! News). "We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tim's music and have precious memories of his songs. Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honor Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world."
The statement concluded, "We are grateful for the privacy during this difficult time. Our wish is that it continues that way. With love, The Tim Bergling Family."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman on Friday, April 20. He was 28 years old. His publicist, Diana Baron, announced the sad news in a statement to Billboard, saying, "The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."
While Avicii's cause of death has not yet been released, an Oman law enforcement source revealed over the weekend that there is reportedly "no criminal suspicion" in relation to his passing.
In 2016, the two-time Grammy nominee, who was best known for his 2013 hit, "Wake Me Up," had retired from performing live. Avicii had suffered from very public health problems for years, partly due to excessive drinking. In addition to being hospitalized for acute pancreatitis, the musician had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.
After the news of his death broke, a number of celebrities took to social media to share their thoughts and express their condolences.
The EDM star's body will be flown back home to Sweden this week. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Our thoughts are with Avicii's loved ones during this difficult time.
