Carrie Underwood Makes Musical Comeback At 2018 ACM Awards Following Fall
Carrie Underwood is officially back!
On Sunday, April 15, 2018, the country music star made her triumphant return to the spotlight, performing her new single "Cry Pretty" at the 2018 Academy of Country Music Awards after getting seriously injured in a fall.
According to Entertainment Tonight, she took to the stage to belt out her new song, looking as gorgeous as ever in a black-and-silver sequined dress and glittery makeup. Following her powerful performance, Underwood, who also took home the award for Vocal Event of the Year for her duet with Keith Urban, "The Fighter," received a standing ovation.
During her emotional acceptance speech, which took place just after her performance, she teared up as she told Urban, "Thank you for having me." Underwood then added, "I'm still kinda shaky right now. Thank you, guys. Thank you, country radio," before the two embraced and walked off stage together.
At the awards show, the American Idol alum had the support of two other powerhouse voices: Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson. "I'm very proud of Carrie. She's gone through a lot, and I am proud that she's back on the stage again," McEntire, who hosted the event, told ET. "She's a tremendous vocalist, incredible — got legs to die for — but she's an incredible vocalist."
Clarkson, who recently spoke out against a poll pitting her against the "Champion" singer, said, "We're moms, we're CEOs, we're killing it — so that's why I was saying, 'Don't do that to us,'" before adding, "It's great that she's better."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Underwood had taken to lying low after suffering a nasty fall on the steps of her home in Nashville, Tenn. in November 2017. Afterward, she underwent surgery on her broken wrist and received 40 to 50 stitches in her face.
While she warned her fans in late December that she may look "different" due to her injuries, recent photos shared on social media showed that she seemed to look the same as she always had.
"I'm doing pretty darn good these days!" the 35-year-old singer wrote on her website, sharing a health update just last week. "My wrist is almost back to normal, about 90% there ... and the docs say that last 10% will come in time. And my face has been healing pretty nicely as well. I definitely feel more like myself than I have in a while."
Underwood's musical comeback at the ACM Awards marked her first public appearance following her accident. We're so glad to see that she's doing better!
