Chrissy Teigen Ditches Snapchat After Rihanna Controversy

Chrissy Teigen is done with Snapchat.

On Saturday, March 24, 2018, the Lip Sync Battle co-host revealed on Twitter that she has decided to boycott the popular social media app. While citing a number of reasons, she mentioned the platform's recent "joke" about domestic violence in reference to Rihanna and her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, who was infamously arrested after attacking the "Stay" singer in 2009.

"I stopped using snap," Teigen, who is currently expecting her second child, a baby boy, with husband John Legend, tweeted. "The update, the constant complaints of people not being able to find me, plus the Rihanna poll...no bueno."

As Nicki Swift previously reported, Rihanna slammed Snapchat over an ad for its "Would You Rather?" game, which asked users whether they'd rather slap her or punch Brown.

"Now SNAPCHAT I know you already know you ain't my fav app out there!" the 30-year-old wrote on her Instagram Stories on Thursday, March 15. "But I'm just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess! I'd love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain't that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and made a joke of it!!!"

The "Work" singer continued, "This isn't about my personal feelings, cause I don't have much of them...but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven't made it out yet...you let us down! Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away."

Snapchat had previously issued a statement apologizing for the controversial ad, which was pulled after it made its rounds on the internet. "The advert was reviewed and approved in error, as it violates our advertising guidelines," the company stated on Tuesday, March 13. "We immediately removed the ad last weekend, once we became aware. We are sorry that this happened."

According to CNN, Snapchat lost $800 million in stock market value after being called out by the pop star. Just weeks prior to that, the platform's stock had dropped by $1.3 billion after Kylie Jenner tweeted a complaint about the app's redesign, writing, "Sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me... ugh this is so sad."
