Justin Timberlake Debuts First Single 'Filthy' Off New Album
Timberlake is back!
Late on Jan. 4, 2018, Justin Timberlake released his first single off of his upcoming album, Man of the Woods, and, as all artists seem to do these days, the 36-year-old dropped the track's accompanying video along with it. The song, "Filthy," features electric-funk music with some risqué lyrics. As Timberlake notes on Instagram, the song "should be played very loud."
In the video, which was directed by Mark Romanek, Timberlake plays a Steve Jobs-type character, unveiling his latest robotic creation to a Pan-Asian Deep Learning Conference in the year 2028. The robot dances onstage for the crowd, demonstrating its abilities—and it even gets a little frisky with its human backup dancers. All the while, Timberlake dances along from backstage, as he watches the robot impress the audience.
But there's a twist! At the end of the video, Timberlake appears to glitch out before completely disappearing. Was he the true futuristic creation this whole time?
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Timberlake announced the upcoming release of his fifth studio album, Man of the Woods, on Jan. 2. "This album is really inspired by my son, my wife, my family, but more so than any other album I've ever written, where I'm from," Timberlake says in the teaser video for the record. "And it's personal."
Man of the Woods is slated for release on Feb. 2, just two days before Timberlake's highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime performance. On Jan. 5, Timberlake showed off the track list on Instagram, revealing "Filthy" to be the very first song off the record.
