Mindy Kaling Honors Late Mother With Daughter's Name

More details about the A Wrinkle in Time star's newborn have been released.

The Blast reports that Mindy Kaling paid tribute to her late mother by naming her daughter Katherine Swati. Swati was the name of Kaling's mother.

Kaling previously spoke out about the death of her mother, commenting on how it was connected to her series The Mindy Project, which aired its series finale in fall 2017. "When I started the show, I literally found out that the show got green lit the same day that my mother passed away," she told Ellen DeGeneres in October. "My mother, who was an OBGYN — I play an OBGYN on the show — it was within the hour that I found out, so it was such a strange thing."

She continued, "So now the show is ending when I found out that I was pregnant with my own daughter."

As Nicki Swift previously reported, Kaling gave birth on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017. According to The Blast, who obtained a copy of her daughter's birth certificate, baby Katherine Swati was born at 10:30 a.m. PT at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.  

Kaling reportedly left the name of her child's dad off of the birth certificate. It's currently unknown just who fathered the kiddo, and, it appears, that's just how Kaling would like to keep it.
